Demons - Ednah Walters ~Review in English~

Demons by Ednah Walters
Firetrail Publishing
ISBN: 978-1943053018

Blurb:

Eirik Baldurson—son of Baldur, God of Light—failed living as a Mortal. He lost the girl of his dreams and nearly got his friends killed. Now, he's gone to the underworld to meet the mother he’s never known. Torn between his duty to her and the man he used to be, Eirik struggles to find himself, until a witch appears in his world. Feisty and stubborn, she is a reminder of everything good he left behind.
Celestia Devereaux proudly attends a charter high school for “gifted” teenagers who embrace magic. Witches. However, she keeps a terrible secret—a prediction that she would one day be responsible for massive destruction and death. Though Celestia uses her clairvoyant abilities to help people, she worries that it is just a matter of time before she goes over to the dark side.

Her world changes when she unexpectedly astral projects to a place she didn’t believe existed and meets a tortured man who needs her help. Will helping him cause her fears to come true, or will he sacrifice everything to save her?

And she did it again! Once more Ednah Walters wrote a book that captivated me from the first page on and kept me glued to my e-reader!

This book, which can be read as a stand-alone (albeit a stand-alone with a cliffhanger) despite it being part of the Runes-Series, follows Eirik, son of Baldur, on his first trip to the Underworld where he wants to meet his mother. Eirik has been raised amongst mortals and never knew about his immortal heritage.

Those of you who have already read the other books of the series, have met Eirik already of course as he and Raine were neighbours and he has always been treated by her parents as if he was a part of the family. And, well, then there is Cora, of course. Cora, Raine's best friend and the girl with whom Eirik is in love. Well, now she is not just Raine's best friend but also Echo's girlfriend, a fact that doesn't sit well with Eirik. Not well at all, actually.

Arriving in the underworld, Eirik finds out that his mother has a somewhat different idea of a welcome party and just like that, his stay gets prolonged rather sponaneously for an indefinite time.
While Eirik struggles with his heritage (and his mother's expectations), he comes across Celestia Deveraux, a peppy and charming young witch who is trying zealously but not always successfully to support Eirik in his struggles. Celestia, however, carries a rather dark secret and soon she is not sure anymore whether her actions will cause death and desaster or if she finally may be able to escape her destiny. The fact that Eirik is so darned attractive doesn't make things easier! Just saying!

Once again Ednah Walters presents us with an exciting and imaginative narration that is exceedingly well written and comes up with amazing and interesting characters and a convincing story. Unfortunately the story ends on a cliffhanger. Not a really bad one but a cliffhanger nontheless that makes me very very happy that the next book in the series, “Gods” will be out in three months!

Those of you who have loved the Runes-Series, will also love this book about Eirik and Celestia, those of you who haven't read the other books yet will have no problem to understand and enjoy this book but I'm very sure that he'll want to read the other books as well afterwards!
These books convince by their combination of a gripping writing style and a brilliant story spiked with pinches of well developed, strong and authentic characters – in my eyes an irresistible combination and a perfect recipe for a good book!
