One Lucky Cowboy (Lucky #2) by Carolyn Brown

Jane Day is on the run from the paid assassin who had been her fiancé. In Wichita Falls, Texas, she meets Nellie Luckadeau, a spitfire of an old lady who desperately needs someone to work on her ranch. But Nellie's drop-dead gorgeous grandson "Lucky Slade" is sure he can spot a con artist a mile away. He's determined not to let some upstart like Jane fleece his granny. When his signature intimidation methods don't convince Jane to leave, he pours on the charm to make her spill what she's up to. She's happy to play along, but she's not going to let this hot, hostile cowboy run her off his land when all she needs is a lucky break…

Okay, I really enjoyed this book till, well, till the moment I kept mumbling and ranting because the story went downhill. Fast. Oh, don't get me wrong, it was still sweet and I still laughed but seriously? You are friends with a Sheriff but you don't get him involved when you are faced with real criminals? You've got all the money that you need at your hands and, oh, right, nobody cares that you are kidnapped? Nobody cares to speak up and tell that you are not...oh, alright. No. Obviously not.
We are talking about that last part of the book though (mostly) that was rather far fetched and constructed. The story didn't flow anymore, it got so many bumps and dumps and...couldn't really convince me anymore.

As I said, I enjoyed the part about Jane and Slade and their banter even though they fight somewhat fierce and I also loved Nellie, Slade's grandmother and the woman who hired this complete stranger at the busstop. I also liked that Nellie and her sister Ellen were full of life and having fun even at the mature age of...oops...but I didn't like the fact that they didn't think that it was wrong to drive drunk or drive half-blind. Sorry, that's a big no-go for me.

As the book still managed to keep me interested, it's 2.5 stars despite everything.

Manhattan: A Small Town Friends-to-Lovers Romance (Becker Brothers Book 3) by Kandi Steiner

Manhattan is a stand-alone, small town, country romance in the Becker Brothers Series.

Everyone knows not to fall in love with your best friend.

But when your best friend is Michael Becker, it’s impossible not to.

He’s everything our town knows a Becker brother to be: devastatingly handsome, charming as a thief, and the icing on the cake — a sentimental musician who’s never without his guitar.

And he was mine. At least, that’s what I’d convinced myself.

Our bond was born in elementary school, strengthened by circumstance and the promise to always be there for each other, no matter what. And the best thing about my life was being friends with Michael Becker.

Until it was the worst.

I watched him fall in love with someone else, and helped patch him back up when she left him behind. But when he drops the bomb that he’s moving to New York, I realize it’s my last chance to tell him how I feel. And I ask him to make one more promise.

One summer. One list of adventures to remind him that our small town has more to offer than memories of the girl who left him behind.

One last chance to tell him I’m in love with him.

And I’m just dumb enough to believe that maybe he could love me, too.

On the whole, I really enjoyed reading this book in the amazing becker Brother series though I must admit that it will never be my favorite one.
Even though I loved our heroine Kylie and wished her that Michael would finally pull his head out of his charming behind and see what was right in front of him, Michael's attitude and the way he was hung up on his former girlfriend who had dumped him and left him behind when she went to Nashville to make their dreams come true. On her own. Sure, I understand that that is a blow to his ego and I understand that he was in love with her and is devastated but, honestly? After a while, I just wanted to kick him and tell him to suck it up and get his life back.

But, well, do you know the Becker Brothers already? If you know them, you will also know that this family is just irresistible. They are charming and fun and absolutely loyal so, let#s just say that the rest of the family and Kylie make up for a lot.

I was a bit disappointed though that we didn't learn much more about the death of their father. Ever since the first book, the brothers have been trying to find out more about his death because the circumstances of his death...yeah. Definitely suspicious. And I must admit that I had hoped that we'd learn more about him and that fire but I guess I'll have to wait for the next and last book of the series to do so.
Despite that, I still couldn't put the book down, so it is still four stars - and I'm waiting anxiously for the next book!

Holiday Crown (Royal Conquest Saga #4) by Nikki Jefford

 Synopsis:

Dahlquist is brimming with gifts and good cheer. While King Liri spends the holidays with his queen in the mortal realm, it's up to a certain elf and her brood to rule.

It’s all fun and fa-la-las at the castle—until the holidays turn into a deadly game of hide-and-seek.

While some of the family is getting naughty, others are hunting down an escaped prisoner who isn't playing nice. Meanwhile, will a wish for a future bundle wrapped in pink come true?

This holiday you're invited to come deck the halls of Dahlquist.

A short, sweet and funny addition to the Royal Conquest Saga, this book will have you laughing and furiously turning the pages when love and betrayal invade the palace. Lark and Fraya, the kids of our main characters who have turned into teenagers in the years since we last "met" them, have to step up and save the day - and maybe even a kingdom while the grown-ups, well...sleep?
Okay, maybe not voluntarily. And not all of them - but, oh, well, just trust me, there's a lot of fun and adventure going around and you really don't want to miss it!

The Howl (By Kiss and Claw Book 1) by Melissa Haag

Synopsis:

Most parents want their kids to grow up to be something respectable like a doctor or lawyer. My mom wants me to become a man-eating ho. I, Eliana Barchim, vow to never follow my mother’s footsteps.

Eliana’s determination to never be the succubus her mother wants to be starts to falter when her mother unexpectedly interferes. It doesn’t help that a local shifter with a cute dimple is trying to help cheer Eliana up when her best and only friend leaves town. With her control slipping, Eliana resorts to something distract to get rid of her mom.

Eliana’s fear of ruining the one person she can trust to stand by her side might be the thing that brings her carefully composed control to its knees. Nothing can withstand a starving succubus’s hunger.

I love all of Melissa Haag's books though her Fury series is my favorite to date. Well, I should say - it was my favorite. At the moment it is a toss-up between Megan and Eliana's story. Howl is simply amazing and an absolute pleasure to read!

I fell in love with sweet tackle hugging Eliana, our sweet little succubus who doesn't want to act like a true succubus for fear of hurting her victims, right from the start in the Fates and Furies books and reading her own story now in The Howl - sigh- I love it. This book is once again keeping me on my toes with so much happening left and right, with so many awesome characters and an amazing story to boot. The whole time I didn't know whether I was rather upset with all those meddling well-meaning (Are they? All of them?) grown-ups and the way they try to run (and ruin) Eliana's life. I would have loved to hug her and I was furious and sad and seriously, I wanted so much to kick soneone's behind - yep. As I said, this book kept me on my toes.

Fenris, the werewolf,  was always there, having Eliana's back and trying to help her and to support her and I loved to see that they slowly, very slowly found their way to each other. Okay, it is very slowly, so don't expect too much from these two in this book yet but I'm sure that their time will come, all signs are there!
The minor characters though, well, those are not as shy as our main characters ... Don't get me started on Eliana's mother but there's also Piepen... Piepen is hilarious, shameless and all in all a great addition - at least on paper and safely hidden in this book. I'm pretty sure that he'd drive me crazy if I'd have to deal with him in person in real life!

Amazing characters, a great story and a wonderful start to a new series - I can't wait to read the next book!
