Blog tour - Chasing Bliss (Nights in Bliss, Colorado #7) by Lexi Blake #ChasingBliss

BLOG TOUR

Blurb:

Re-released in a second edition with new content.

Gemma Wells came to Bliss, Colorado, after a scandal cost her everything. Utterly lost, the disgraced attorney built walls so high that she thinks no one can get through them. She’s given up on love, friendship, and all matters of the heart.

Jesse McCann and Cade Sinclair have floated through life, enjoying the world around them, but never allowing themselves to become a part of it. One look at the pretty attorney and Jesse realizes he’s finally found a reason to stay put. Cade isn’t so sure. He’s crazy about her, but he also knows he doesn’t deserve her.

As they begin to find their way together, a dark secret from Gemma’s past threatens to wreck their futures. Her ex-fiancé is back, bringing danger with him, and their time is running out. Jesse and Cade have to melt this Ice Queen’s heart, or she might not leave Bliss alive.

I must admit that I was a bit torn when it came to rating this book. On the one hand you just have to love all these flawn and quirky characters that populate Bliss, this very unique town in Colorade that continues to be the place where people heal and love. Oh, yeah, and how much they love, in every way. Bliss is probably one of the few places where people accept that having sex is more important than getting your customer his new spark plugs. Just saying. Be prepared for a town where all those meet who stand out everywhere else, those who don't have a place anywhere else because of their lifestyle or their sexual preferences.

Okay, these characters have never been subtle and their stories are always fast-paced and sex-oriented, well, as long as nobody threatens the females or tries to murder one of the few citizens of Bliss - which happens rather regularly. In this case, the male portion of the population becomes possessive and over-protective cavemen.

I don't know if I read too many of these stories in a row but some parts of this book felt over the top, even for a place like Bliss. Jesse was a bit too dominant and pushy and even though I laughed about all those cavemen, I must admit that it felt a bit as if Bliss totally missed out on everything remotely related to thing like emancipation or *gasp* feminism. The story was nice and entertaining but in parts a bit forced.

I really liked the characters and felt with them but on the whole, the book couldn't completely convince me. It's nice and I'll probably read it again but...
