The Cowboy's Runaway Bride (The McCall Brothers Book 3) by Laurie LeClair

Blurb:

When Dallas society bride Elizabeth Eve Barrington discovers her intended’s financial ulterior motives for marriage, she hightails it out of the church in her wedding gown and hops in the back of a parked and beat-up pickup truck.

Happy to leave the big city, sexy cowboy Connor McCall jumps in his truck, revs up his engine, and then heads home to Honor, Texas with the goal of saving his family's failing ranch. Hours later and miles down country roads, Connor discovers the stowaway bride, and he’s pretty sure she’s feigning amnesia.

What’s a cowboy to do? Cowboy up, of course. He takes Eve home, determined to solve her mystery. What he discovers is a lot of smoke–and where there's smoke, there's fire, with the heat generating between them hot enough to burn. Will Connor be damned if he falls for the beautiful runaway bride or will he be damned if he doesn’t?

Okay, that was a really nice read! I was a bit annoyed with our bride-to-(not)-be for the manner in which she dealt with her situation (Seriously? Amnesia?) but it was great to see her find her way and herself, to see her learn to stand up for the things that are important to her and I loved her grit when she did that. She never gave up, no matter what happened, she did what had to be done and it was easy to see, how such a tough guy like Conner McCall could fall for a girl like her.
Running away may not have been the most mature reaction (but I must admit that it is understandable) but who would have thought that so much good could come of it?

All her life, since her mother died when she was still young, Liz has been fighting to unite her family and to fit in, to live up to her father's expectations. No easy thing with a man like that, actually, which is also the reason why her whole family is torn apart. Her step-brothers have long since given up on her father, their stepfather but Liz still hopes that one day they will all get along.
With her fiancé turning out to be a callous, profit-seeking bastard, her last hope for achieving her aim dies. It is by running away that she learns what being family really means and that love is worth fighting for.

A light-hearted and easy read, somewhat predictable but with unique characters and a wonderful story. I really enjoyed reading it and will definitely read more books by this author. It was my first book by Laurie LeClaire but hopefully not the last!

Ten Days with the Highlander (Love Abroad #1) by Hayson Manning

Blurb:

I was a bit torn when it came to rating this book as it was really nice to read on the one hand but on the other hand, it wasn't hard to put it aside for a while.

"Ten Days with a Highlander" is well-written and has a really nice story. I loved to read about the village and the sometimes very special people living there, I loved how the weaker ones were protected by those around them and, well, of course, you can't find fault with a guy like Callum who knows what he wants, who is protective and sweet, sexy as hell and almost perfect. Almost. He might be a bit too protective and even though many things shouldn't change it might be time to find out if a change is always something bad.

Georgia, our heroine, is not very happy when she falls in love because her life is affected by her parents' restlessness and wanderlust and the idea of getting close to someone, well, let's just say that it sounds rather scary. It will take a very determined and very compassionate man to help her overcome her fears....

It is a nice story that slowly unfolds itself and that was really nice to read but couldn't enthrall me completely.

Claimed by Tarah Scott

Blurb:

Sometimes, the hero must be the villain...

Fourteen months ago, Lady Rhoslyn lost her husband and infant son to a fever. Now, by order of King Edward I, she is yanked from the healing tranquility of a convent to marry the king’s favored bastard knight. Rhoslyn has no intention of returning to the home where her husband and child died. Neither does she intend to hand over her fortune to the ‘Dragon’—no matter his sweet promises and warm kisses.

Talbot St. Claire tires of war. Seventeen years is enough. King Edward will never release him from service, but the king promises Talbot will find some peace in front of his own hearth. Talbot expects to find a horse-faced, hostile woman in the Scottish heiress Edward commands him to marry. Instead, he discovers a fiery Highland beauty worthy of a man’s respect... and love. Talbot determines to do anything to win his new bride’s acceptance. Anything except the one thing she demands: betray his king and embrace his Scottish heritage.

This wasn't the first time that I've read this book and it probably won't be the last time because, on the whole, I enjoyed reading this book. It is well-written, captivating and fast-paced. The latter is the problem though. Even though I really enjoyed reading this book, it is rather too fast-paced and sometimes I just wondered how much could happen in such a short time. It felt as if our hero was always running or rather riding somewhere to fight and then there was this intrigue and that and these people to fight and those and well, you get the point, right?

I really liked the hero and the heroine and I was happy to see them find love and so on after everything especially Roslyn has been through but somehow the characters lacked some depth. And, well, let's just say that I was fascinated by the story of the tattoo because....well, because tattoos usually don't tend to be very realistic or accurate and as a big part of the story is based on a tattoo of a person...okay, you'd better read that for yourself, I think. Just know that I'm a bit wary and that I don't accept that twist easily.

Nevertheless, it is a nice and entertaining read that I enjoyed.

*Soon in English*

Und so fanden A Scot in the Dark, A Gentleman's Guide to Scandal, A Date At The Altar, When We Touch, Why Do Dukes Fall In Love, Lady Claire Is All That und As Rich As A Rogue den Weg zu mir.

The Scotsman by Virginia Brown

Blurb:

Pushed beyond his limits. . .

Scotsman Alexander Fraser has lost too much in his fight for freedom from the English. So when his younger brother is taken hostage by the cruel Earl of Warfield, Alex retaliates by kidnapping the earl's delicate daughter . . . only to find she's nothing he expected.

Taken for ransom. . .

Catherine Worth, daughter of Warfield, knows her value. She's worth nothing to her father except as, now tarnished, property to be traded through marriage to a titled ally. He won't trade a valuable prisoner for her return. Her life is in the hands of her cold and ruthless captor as he realizes that there will be no trade. What she doesn't count on is falling in love with a man like none she's ever known.

Neither expected passion. Neither expected the choices they'd face. Alex must someday give her up . . . or forfeit his brother's life.

This book was nice but also rather foreseeable. I know, many of those books are foreseeable and that's exactly why we read them but I felt as if something unique was missing. Oh, the hero and the heroine deal well with each other and their problems are tough and very real but somehow it couldn't hold my attention. Maybe, if I read it again another time, I might be more captivated but somehow I doubt that. Oh, the story is fine and the characters are nice but... Of course, not everything was foreseeable but it was lacking some kind of spark and something that makes it different.
I liked it well enough but I'm not sure that I will ever read it again.

Falling For His Mate (Crescent Moon #6) by Savannah Stuart/Katie Reus

It's not often that I read novellas but this is one that I can recommend...

Blurb:

 He screwed up.

Second in command of the O’Shea wolf pack, Andrew Reid screwed up and let Charlotte walk away from him. Now that he’s come to his senses, he’s determined to win her back, no matter how much he has to grovel. Because she’s a woman worth fighting for.

She’s not willing to trust him again.

Charlie thought Andrew was different from other males, that what they shared was real—that their connection was the rare mating pull. But a true mate wouldn’t have ghosted on her the way he did. So no matter what he wants, she’s not playing his games. To capture her heart for good, he’ll have to prove he’s worthy of a second chance. Even if that means he has to give up everything, including his pack.

Length: NOVELLA

Yep, I like the books by Katie Reus, "even" when she writes under her pen name Savannah Stuart.
What do you do when you have finally found your mate, the one and only and - you are too much of a coward and really, really blow it?

Right, you go work in .... Oh, no, you have to read that for yourself! Anyway, he is definitely willing to do everything to get Charlie back!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is sweet, light-hearted and  - he has to fight for his luck. Charlie does hold out for a while but as any romantic will love to hear, she is not cruel about it and, well, if you hope for a Happily Ever After, well, you might get lucky. Perhaps.
