Blogtour - Breaking the Billionaire's Rules by Annika Martin #BreakingTheBillionaire'sRules

Blurb:

Max Hilton is my high school nemesis turned billionaire. And tomorrow I deliver his lunch order. In a cat costume.

You know he’s going to love it. He’ll smile that smirky smile, sitting there all superior in his gleaming tower, the wealthiest and most notorious playboy in all of New York, the king of everything.

Turns out it wasn’t curiosity that killed the cat—it was mortification.

I’m almost ready to quit my lunch delivery job, but then my roommate tosses me a copy of The Max Hilton Playbook: Ten Golden Rules for Picking up the Hottest Girl in the Room.

It’s the book that catapulted him to stardom. And it’s my new bible.

I’m going to use his own techniques against him. I’ll wrap him around my little finger, bring him to his knees, and crush his steely heart. Call it payback for all the single girls who had to endure legions of losers wielding his legendary tactics.

But seeing Max every day, I’m discovering a side of him
I didn’t even know existed--he’s not the jerky guy I thought he was. He has
this smile he shows only to me, and it melts my heart. His touch sends shivers
down my spine. And those forbidden kisses are driving me wild.

Falling for him was not in my plan.

Am I breaking his rules or will his rules break me first?

This book was a nice read but, and it is a big, fat but - it didn't really draw me in. While I was reading it, I had to stop several times and had to remind myself to go back to it and read it.

It was nice, I really liked the characters but apart from some funny episodes the whole story was rather predictable.
Let's start with the story though. Our hero, Max, a billionaire who goes way back with our heroine whose heart he broke at that time, is not just a successful entrepreneur who's making billions while having his photos plastered all over the city but also a closet-pianist and  the author of a men's guide to seducing women. The latter part is the one that makes him most unfamous with Mia's, our heroine's friends who have all fallen for some sh*tty guys who used Max's techniques on them. Now they are out for revenge.
Throw in a couple of sequins and rhinestones and sandwiches delivered by the Meow-Squad, some potentially famous (or not so famous considering everything) future actors, a bunch of crazy musicians and dancers - aaaaand the show begins!

I liked the characters, I really did but somehow they remained a bit flat and I couldn't feel them. They were nice, they were cute but something was missing. Unfortunately I felt the same when it came to the chemistry between the main characters. I knew where things would lead, I was expecting it and it was okay and sweet and nice but...even when it is slow-burning and slow-paced a love as passionate and lasting and....well...as this one is supposed to be, left me feeling rather indifferent. Soooo..unfortunately there's a definite lack of sparks and the special something that makes our hero and our heroine more than just the next nice couple.

On the whole, this book is a nice read but considering the fact that I almost forgot to finish the book and it couldn't really hold my attention despite it being really nice, I rated it three stars.

★★★
